Yet Another Zombie Walk for a Good Cause

It’s heartwarming to see Zombie Walks raising money and awareness for good causes while promoting a healthy and inclusive vision of Living-Zombie relations, so we’re happy to bring news of the Marshalltown, Iowa Zombie Walk (please ignore the media outlet’s reflexive Anti-Zombie slant):

It’s that time of year when frightful creatures slither along downtown streets.

All for a good reason, of course.

The Third Annual Zombie Walk will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Orpheum Theater Center, 220 E. Main St. in Marshalltown.

“It can be summed up in one word – epic,” said ZW Founder Steve Adelmund. “In having a partnership this year with the Orpheum Theater, it’s sure to be bigger, raise more money than ever before, and is a great way for the good folks of our community to get involved.”

As festivities are all-volunteer, 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Domestic Violence Alternatives/Sexual Assault Center of Marshalltown. Thus far, $2,771 has been raised for the facility and other causes since the event’s existence.

“The zombie walk is a great grass-roots example of helping in our community to strive to be better,” said Event Coordinator Dee Vajgrt. “Plus, it will be fun.”

The official slogan of this event seems to be: ‘We Invade Cause We Care’

Aww. And check out this testimonial, demonstrating the effectiveness of this outreach:

“We dress like zombies to protect the people who are getting beat up by scaring away the bad guys.” – Logan Lester, Age 9, Gliman, IA

That is really sweet, plus, awesome.

The Zombie Rights Campaign heartily endorses this event and encourages everyone in the general area to show up and get their Lurch on for a good cause.
