Another Zombie Friendly Indie Film in ‘Ace the Zombie’? Well, Perhaps…

Ignoring the thick layer of scorn heaped on the Differently Animated by the usual suspects at Dread Central, this sounds like it could be a winner:

Let’s face it … just because you’re a rotting, shambling, undead thing with a hunger for human flesh doesn’t mean that you don’t need anyone to look out for you. Given their poor physical state, zombies probably need more help than anyone. Good thing for them that Ace is here.

Allen Christopher Edwards, Ace to his friends, is a great guy but a total pushover. Everyone takes advantage of him from his boss and coworkers to his girlfriend, Brenda. He gains newfound confidence when he is bitten and becomes a zombie. But Keeper Ellis, head of the Zombie Control Force, has a secret plan to destroy all zombies. Ace must now fight for the lives of all Undead Americans as he matches wits with the evil Keeper Ellis.

Sounds great, right? A newly Differently Animated individual finds his confidence and the spring in his step after a major life-to-Unlife change and has to combat prejudice. Nice!

The trailer however seems to muddle that message more than a bit with some unfortunate Anti-Zombie stereotyping:

We’re not sure what to take away from this; the Zombie Friendly synopsis, the unfortunate emphasis in the teaser, or something in between?

The ZRC will keep an eye out for this one. We’d love another Zombie Friendly indie film; we really would.

But vigilance is the watchword here.
