‘Run for Your Lives’? Excuse Us?

Increasingly we’re seeing an interest in making fitness ‘fun’ and modern. Some of the ideas floated to do so are inclusive and potentially quite Zombie Friendly, like Fitocracy, which ZRC pal Michelle Hartz got me into recently.

Others are decidedly less so, from outdoor experience camps for kids to, well, a 5k run that involves vicious Living Supremacism.

Really:

ESCAPE FROM THE RUNNING DEAD.
Protect your brain and run for your life. This is one race where your legs giving out are the least of your problems. Run For Your Lives is a first-of-its-kind event, one part 5K, one part obstacle course, one part escaping the clutches of zombies — and all parts awesome.

Runners will navigate a series of 12 obstacles throughout a 5K course in an attempt to reach the finish line — all while avoiding zombies. At the end of this adventure race, you get to celebrate survival (or zombie transformation) with live entertainment and music, local celebrities, vendors, food, and of course, beer!

Yes, motivating people to get fit using fear of Zombies. It’s been done, and it’s being done again in cities across the country.

You know what really hurts? Aside from the cruel exploitation and defamation of the Differently Animated I mean. The Red Cross, who we in the Zombie Rights Movement raised money for last summer after the Japan disaster, is one of the ‘charitable partners’ of these.. events.

Honestly, there’s no loyalty anymore, is there?

And tragically, they’re framing this event in such a way as to pit Zombies versus the Living in a zero-sum game, where Zombies aren’t just to be avoided (which is awful enough) but are actively plotting against you:

WHAT YOU’RE UP AGAINST

Throughout the 5K obstacle race, there will be 12 man-made and natural obstacles for you to complete. Runners may choose NOT to complete an obstacle, BUT any runner who skips an obstacle will not be eligible for prizes.
There will be zombies. Their job is to chase you and eat you — but mainly go after your health, in the form of your flag belt. Avoid the zombies to keep your health flags.
Use speed, strategy and your intact brains to make it to the FINISH LINE with at least ONE FLAG INTACT. If you finish with zero health flags, your time will be recorded, but you will not be eligible for awards.

Are you shocked, loyal ZRC reader? I know I am.

We’ll keep you updated with any further developments, and I’m sure there will be a few, as the year progresses.
