ZRC Review – Dead Set Episode 5
The final episode of ‘Dead Set’ begins with a hastily-averted sniping tragedy and the happy reunion of Riq and Kelly.
Aww. I guess.
But can happiness possibly last with such a dysfunctional cast?
(Note: this is a very spoiler heavy analysis, so only read further if you dare)
Probably not.
Patrick insists on going forward with his escape plan even though Riq says it’s hopeless, leading to a brawl and Patrick’s imprisonment. The rest of the group vacillates between straight-out murdering him or just maiming him for life, as a more permanent solution to their disagreement.
Yes, this seems healthy.
Having been privy to all the cast’s plotting and scheming against one another as the show’s producer, Patrick is quickly able to turn the Big Brother house’s outcast against the rest of the group, pointing out that they would probably just turn on him next, once Patrick was out of the picture, and predicting their cruel plans for their captive.
Which is totally fair. Leading to another attempt at escape.
Everyone tries to stop this escape… Riq gets killed by Patrick…
And then of course, Patrick’s plan goes south too, and finally, the Zombies get access to the compound. Yay for the Zombies!
I guess.
Things only go downhill from there, if you can believe it, for the living cast, and much of the last 6 or 7 minutes of the show is continuous screaming.
Leading to Kelly, potential last Living person on Earth, trapped in a silly reality tv video ‘diary’ recording booth.
Not to worry though, because the ultimate ending hints at at least the possibility of a true, unified, Undead population. Which admittedly is still fixated on reality television.
No world is perfect.
