ZRC Review – Fear the Walking Dead Season 2, Episode 4
When last we left the crew of the S.S. Zombie Hater they had just tried, and largely failed, to ransack a plane crash. This week the inevitable consequences of talking to strangers comes home to roost as Alicia’s ham radio pals pay a visit.
It is also noteworthy for having very few Differently Animated even allowed on screen. More below the cut.
Not that Fear the Walking Dead misses a chance to front-load the cruelty, as this week’s story opens in media res with Nick cruelly trapping and killing a totally harmless Zombie in what appears to be a pre-apocalypse refugee camp.
Disturbing.
Moving on from there, Alicia’s radio pals show up, and yep, they’ve descended into a life of professional piracy in the couple of weeks since ‘civilization’ collapsed in a wave of Zombie hating.
More or less my expression at the pirates’ behavior, truth be told.
Moving on yet again, the audience gets a series of flashbacks detailing Strand’s mysterious past, which turns out to be less mysterious and more crassly mercenary-with-a-hint-of-fraud.
Back to the present, where Nick manages to cram in some heavily stereotyped Zombie lurching before a bloody resolution (mostly) to the pirate crisis.
Another week without a single redeeming treatment of the Differently Animated or their quest for equality.
Even *our* nearly infinite optimism is beginning to dull under this onslaught.
