More ‘World War Z’ News and Gruesome Anti-Zombie Spectacle

As if you hadn’t been deluged enough already with ‘World War Z’ news, the mega-production of evil is rolling ever onward:

Now, having bought the rights in 2007, Brad Pitt has finally began filming his zombie film World War Z

And fans have been given their first glimpse of the living dead as filming continued in Malta yesterday.

In another scene they are hanging from their belts or by their feet and look like they are being cleared away.

Gruesome. Awful. Heinous. These are words that come to mind when looking at these awful images, published in the Daily Mail, of the beginning of the Pitt production of the seminal work of Zombie Apocalypse hate fiction.

I must warn you the following image is very disturbing and you should brace yourself, even if it is only fiction:

Yikes.

In the above image, one of many The Daily Mail obtained, it is almost impossible not to see the haunting echoes of imagery of lynchings and violence against other oppressed groups throughout history, melded with a very contemporary setting. Apparently the Malta shooting is to replicate the scenes depicted in the book at Israeli border checkpoints, where Brooks makes a fairly transparent appeal to Israeli-Palestinian unity – in the face of overwhelming menace from the ‘Zombies’, naturally. Real ‘greater good’ stuff.

*rolls eyes*

That of course just adds further layers to the outrage, suggesting as it does that the solution to long-running conflicts amongst the Living is to pile on to the Undead. Togetherness through hate and murder? Count us out, Mr. Brooks.

The gruesome horror-show in the making is slated to soon wrap up in Malta and move onward to its next target:

According to local press, filming will continue on the island until July 9 when the production moves to Scotland.

Other reports have claimed that Glasgow will double as Philadelphia and was choson after ‘many months looking for the perfect city centre location to play an important part in the film.’

This helps to explain an earlier story about ‘World War Z’s calls for North American extras in the UK; they’re trying to make Glasgow look like Philly.

Riiiiiiiight.

The irony is that Pennsylvania has long been a hotbed of Anti-Zombie filmmaking ever since Romero, and yet they’re faking it in Scotland?

Which, coincidentally, is having its own Anti-Zombie film surge lately.

To recap: Brad Pitt is a very bad man, Max Brooks is a jerk, ‘World War Z’ is still full steam ahead, first in Malta, then in Scotland, and they’re more or less staging Zombie Lynchings for the movie-going public.

What an outrage.
